The business has recently undergone restructuring with the brothers taking on separate business identities. Kevin now owns and operates "O'Connell Furniture Specialists" in Hastings where the Clydestyle range of furniture is still manufactured and available for purchase along with full upholstery, custom-build, restoration & auto-trim services.
James (Jock) continues to manufacture the frames for Clydestyle furniture under his new business brand "Unique Cabinetmaking & Upholstery by James O'Connell in Wairoa. James who is a trained cabinetmaker & qualified with an advanced Trade Certificate is also an industry assessor for the furniture-making industry. Kevin trained as an Upholsterer and Motor Trimmer, gaining highest marks in the Trade Certificate exam that year for upholsterers throughout New Zealand. He was chosen to be part of an elite board that updated the last NZQA requirements for upholstery apprentices.
